Better among the two (MBA or PGDM): It is a very difficult question to answer. Here are the reasons.
MBA is offered in some of the India's best BSchools like the FMS Delhi, Narsee Monjee, Symbiosis Pune, Jamanlal Bajaj and few reputed Business Schools.
PGDM is offered in prestigious IIM Ahmedabad (Number 1 Ranked BSchool of India), Other IIM's, Xaviers, SP Jain, TAPMI Manipal, IMT Ghaziabad etc.
Now one must understand that there are Business Schools which are good for MBA and there are Business Schools which are good for PGDM also. To decide which course is better is not appropriate thing. Student must decide only the Business School.
Just like Universities how they have a value based on their reputation even the Business Schools which offer PGDM also have a Rank. If PGDM is done in IIM Ahmedabad it has one value and if PGDM is done in Great Lakes it has one value.
Normally speaking, if the student has both options to do MBA or PGDM from an average college or an average business school, It would be better to opt for PGDM.
University affiliated colleges usually offer other UG courses such as BCom, BBM, BSc, BE / BTech etc apart from the MBA course. It would make an MBA student feel like he is still studying a Graduation course, because most of the resources such as Library, Campus, Faculty are shared. Master course such as an MBA is a different ball game. University BSchools treat them just like another Degree Programme.
Autonomous AICTE Approved Business Schools on the other hand offer only one standalone programme i.e PGDM. The faculty is also drawn from Industry background, the entire campus and resources are dedicated to the PGDM students. As per the norms of AICTE, Bschools offering AICTE approved PGDM should have it's own campus, should have faculty of high repute, the BSchool shouldn't offer any other programme and so on..
It would be wise to choose a Business School, because there will be advancement in the teaching methodology, curriculum and the way the course is delivered rests upon the Business School. In MBA the course content is set up Universities, the Institute has to teach only the prescribed syllabus, there is little or less scope for improvements from the college side.
