  • Dear Srikanth,
I am a diploma holder in Electronics and telecommunication.I have 7 years of experience working as a Design
and Development engineer (Embedded software) in a reputed company. My question is that will PGDM course
be held at par with an MBA or atleast at par with a B.E .Will it make me eligible for companies like TCS and infosys where  Graduation is must.I am thinking of doing a distance education course in IT project management from Welingkar institute of management,Since symbiosis institute no longer provides the course for diploma holder.

  • Hi Srikanth,

I have got selected for IBS Hyderabad(offers MBA) and XIME(offers PGDM).
Fees is not a problem for me but I need good exposure and placement opportunities(I am not a fresher).
IBS is AICTE & UGC approved, where as XIME is only AICTE approved and not AIU so is it equivalent to MBA?
In future i am planning to do CFA so which college would be more suitable for me?
Could you please guide me on the same.

  • Hi,
I've completed my graduation in 2014 Bt due to my health issues I couldn't attempt CAT or MAT Feb. Now I don't wanna waste my year.. I've got registered for May MAT, 2016. welingkar's fee is too high for me. Plz suggest me college that is AICTE n AIU approved. Is there any exam or eligibility criteria that can make me eligible for doing Ph.d after doing PGDM from any B-school other then AIU approved???

have no particular interest in any field as such
  • Can we do PHD programs if we have PGDM certificate ?
  • edited September 2017
The main reason the Postgraduate courses are named as PGDM because is an institute autonomous body .and then conduct Management courses then such institutes a MBA degree. There are many  Government Recruitment for MBA and PGDM  Candidate.
  • Does Part Time PGDM has same value as full time PGDM. If suppose I do PGDM from SIBM Bangalore its a part time course. How can I compare with full time PGDM or MBA students? Because I am working, I can't leave my job for full time PGDM.
  • @Admin: PGDM from which AICTE approved Institutes are good these days? If you see even many AICTE approved B Schools are also of sub standard. In this way even MBA colleges from Universities are also good. MBA is much old and widely accepted, where as the PGDM course is not relevant when you wish to go abroad.
  • @Ravisaket

Some of the well known AICTE approved Business Schools which offer the PGDM are
    1. SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai
    2. Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai
    3. Great Lakes, Chennai
    4. IMT Ghaziabad
    5. Fore School of Management, Delhi
    6. IFMR Chennai
    7. TAPMI Manipal
and so many are there. MBA is an old school, out fashioned syllabus. But there are good universities which are good for MBA. Narsee Monjee, Symbiosis, Delhi University affiliated, Jamanlal Bajaj etc.

MBA or PGDM both are equally good.

It depends on the B School rather than on the terminology alone like just MBA or PGDM, it has no meaning unless it is attached with MBA from so and so, PGDM from so and so. then only the comparison can exist.

    Thanks for your comments..

    Keep Posting..

  • Hi,

I am Planning for PGDM but i dont want to loose my job as well, so i got some information about Online PGDM program from Jaro Education. they said they are providing facility to learn online pgdm from welingkers . please suggest me is this course is really helpful to me or not.
  • PGDM or Post Graduate Diploma in Management is offered by autonomous institutions as they cannot offer MBA. Today most of the students are in a confusion whether to opt for an MBA or a PGDM. Both are different but PGDM has got a couple of benefits when compared to MBA.

The major plus of PGDM course over MBA is that the curriculum of PGDM is more flexible. It will get updated from time to time. Whereas the curriculum of MBA won’t be like that, as MBA course is offered by institutions which are affiliated to universities, the curriculum will get updated once in 3-4 years or maybe more. The curriculum of MBA is more exam-oriented and covers the theoretical aspects, while that of PGDM is more industry-oriented and covers the soft skill aspects. In fact, PGDM makes you industry ready and prepares you for the market. An MBA course is for those people who would like to get a comprehensive view of the program, whereas, a PGDM course is for those who would like to specialize in their areas of interest, it’s more like having an in-depth knowledge.

MBA helps the students in developing their technical knowledge, while a PGDM course will make the students ready for senior and complex roles in management and in fact, paves way for a brighter future in career. Hence, if you are looking for a career in the demanding and challenging zones of management, then PGDM will be the best to step into.

While choosing an institute for doing PGDM, one should make sure that he chooses an institute with a good brand name. MIME is one such institute where the brand name talks. MIME (Mats Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship) is the first B-School of JGI Group
