I think 5 months are more than enough to clear SO exam if you have been preparing for other exams. If you know the basic tips and tricks in Quants and Reasoning then you just need to focus on Technical part.

“According the the latest pattern, only Technical part will be considered for selecting the candidatesQuants, Reasoning and English are qualifying in nature.”

If you have not been preparing for other Banking Exams then it would be a bit difficult, not impossible but difficult. You will need to learn the tricks in Quants and Reasoning and you will need to learn to manage time.

First of all, I’ll tell you the order in which you should attempt the exam. This approach has worked for me and I’ve been using it for years.

    How to Attempt the Exam

Three parts are qualifying in nature (Quants, Reasoning and English) so you just need to score above the cutoff. Do not take it lightly though. You may miss the cutoff by a few marks. It has happened with many candidates.

Start with English. Do not read the passage based questions. Just answer the questions if they are related to antonyms or synonyms otherwise leave it. Answer Grammar based questions and you will clear this part easily. I’ve scored as high as 37/40 in English. You can purchase S P Bakshi for English if you are really weak.

After finishing English, go for the Technical part. Try to finish these two parts (English + Technical) within 45 minutes and you will have 75 minutes for Quants and Reasoning.

In Reasoning, never solve the puzzles in the beginning unless you are completely sure that you will get the solution in the first go. Puzzles are there to waste your time. Solve them in the end, when you have done everything else. Remember, it is qualifying in nature so you do not need to solve every question. Attempt the easy ones. You can refer Kiran Bank PO book for this section.

For quants, do small calculations in your mind. Do not write everything down. Some questions related to profit-loss and boat-stream can be solved using the options. So practice solving the questions in that way. It will make a huge difference in the exam. You can refer Kiran Bank PO book for this section.

How to Score Good in Technical? How to Prepare?

Go through DBMS, DCN, Networking and Operating System and you will easily score more than 35-40 (out of 75) marks here. Most of the questions are from these 4 subjects. Nothing too tough, just basic questions. I am an ECE graduate and I did well in Technical. So if you are from CSE or IT, you have an edge over others. The rest depends on your knowledge. The more you study, the more your score will be. There is a book by Kiran Publication for Technical part. You can refer that if you do not have much time. Otherwise I would suggest you to go for your engineering books.

Remember, this part will decide your fate in the exams so it is the most important part. Do not leave anything as even a single mark can change your fate. I was in the Reserve list in 2015 and had to wait a complete year because my marks were 57.4 and the cutoff was 57.6.

Once you are familiar with the pattern, all you need to do is improve your speed. Purchase an Online Test Series and practice (It makes a huge difference). This is the most important thing you need to do. Take at least 1 test everyday for a month and you will improve.
