Difference Between NET & GATE Exams

Hello,

All the Science Students sometimes get confused in the Terms GATE, UGC NET, CSIR NET etc.

How to differentiate these terms?
Read:
Gate Exam is for providing admission to M. Tech. /M.E programme offered by the IITs, NITs, GFTI and various private institutions.

CSIR NET Exam is the national eligibility test for Science candidates to pursue career further in Research or Lectureship.

UGC NET Exam is conducted for the same purpose as CSIR NET, but in different subjects (Commerce & Arts)

    Hello, There is a difference between these exams. Check below:

    UGC-CBSE NET

    UGC (University Grants Commission) is a statutory organization, which was established by the Union government in 1956. Its main objective is to provide recognition to the Indian universities and provide funds to such recognized universities and colleges.

    Eligibility for UGC NET

    The interested candidates must have completed their post graduation or Ph.Ds in the relevant subjects with not less than 55 percent marks.


    CSIR -UGC NET

    CSIR stands for Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). It is a premier national R&D organization and is among the world's largest publicly funded R&D organization. CSIR conducts the Joint CSIR UGC NET, which is a national level entrance examination in the field of Science including Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Sciences.

    The interested candidates must have acquired their Masters' degree in Science stream. They should have scored 55 percent and above in the eligibility exam and should have done the course from a certified university.

    GATE Exam

    A national level examination, GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a qualifying exam for admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. GATE scores may also be used by Public and Private Sector.

    Minimum Qualifying Criteria is to have Qualifying Degree

  • gate is for mtech and csir net for jrf(junior research fellowship) and also for all india lectureship
  • NET exam is a national level exam which is conducted for those candidates who wants to become lecturer or researcher.

    UGC
    NET exam is conducted by NTA from 2019 in approx 99 subjects.To apply
    for that you need to qualify post graduation with minimum 55% aggregate
    marks.

    CSIR NET exam is conducted by the Council of Scientific
    and Industrial Research for the science stream students only to examine
    their knowledge to holding the position of professor/junior research
    fellow.
    To apply for this you should have masters degree and for CSIR NET JRF Exam, your age must not exceed 28 years.

    GATE
    is an entrance exam to get admission in IITs for post graduation
    courses such as M.Tech, M.E. & Ph.D. On the basis of the score of
    GATE you can also get admission in other private and public sector
    institutes.
