CMAT: Why it may not be a good idea!

edited February 2012 in MBA
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced CMAT this year, a mere 70,000 students are appearing for the online only Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT).

Few reasons why CMAT is not such a good idea, firstly there is no need of such a thing when people are giving competitive management entrance exams like CAT, MAT, ATMA, SNAP etc. Adding another entrance exam in the form of CMAT will only be a burden on students, for sure CAT will never wipe out people still have to appear for CAT if they want to make it to the top business schools in India like the IIMs, FMS & IITs (FMS & IIT has joined CAT by scrapping FMS Management Test & JMET) from this year.

Why didn't AICTE simply chose MAT or CAT?

The All India Management Association (AIMA) is an apex body which conducts MAT four times a year, MAT is widely popular. AIMA has a standing of more than 5 decades (50 years). AICTE should have made MAT mandatory instead they chose to make their hands wet by announcing another entrance exam.

CAT or MAT should have been the test which people could have easily accepted, CMAT is another wrong call from AICTE. Even ATMA doesn't want to give in AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) which is conducted in February every year, they too have academic linkages with many business schools.

Don't understand the rationale behind AICTE move, want to put in too many players and regulate on things which are not really required. AICTE should instead concentrate on improving quality in both Technical & Management Institutes. There are 1000's of them which should have never been there!

My view is that CMAT is not a choice business schools or students opting in comfortably instead they are simply forced to do so!
